Just a quick note to people growing hops or looking to do so, that hops can be fatal to dogs (maybe just certain breeds but very limited information). It's certainly not a common even or one thats not picked up as the culprit of the dogs demise, but should be taken seriously if you have dogs. Does depend on the dogs attitude to eating stuff of course.
Either way worth taking extra care with your spent hops and making sure they are not anywhere a scavanging dog can get into them, especially if they are with spent grain. Also be wary about where you plant them on your property if dogs can eat fallen cones. Be especially careful if your dogs are curious and tend to mouth everything they find. Unfortunately that's waht mine do and will mouth anything from mulch to spent grain, grass and bird seed so I have to go find somwhere else to plant my hops.
Maybe in the neighbours garden...
Worth noting if your gooing to grow them.
