I'm looking to upgrade my 50 litre keg boil kettles with two large stainless firkins - at least that what I think the big kegs are called...
Anyone have any ideas where I might get my hands on some? Or alternate vessels to use?

According to wiki, a firkin is the 9 gallon (41 litre) size.
Ask http://kegresources.co.nz what sizes they have. (To give you an idea of their prices, I paid $35 each for 25 litre kegs including G-type spears.)
Hmmm I'll do a bit more research then. Its the big fullas I'm after, 100 litre or there abouts. Ian at Galbraiths had some a few years ago and I knew then I should have picked them up, think they went to scrap. Long gone now either way :(
Thanks for the link, I was chatting with them today, never thought to ask about big kegs.
Kilderkin = 1/2 barrel = 2 Firkins = 82 litres
Not sure how good they'd be for kettles though, irregular shape might make it hard to clean, not sure about heat conductivity etc.
I reckon you'd be better off going with really big pots like this.
Bought one off trademe and used it last weekend, ran sweet! $85 for a hundred litre boil kettle rocks! Thanks Barry, that was really appreciated. Now I have to build a new brewery though as I had a full redesign afterwards so my wife wants to hurt you haha!
Your wife will have to stand in line behind mine :)
Nice work mate.
Will you be selling off your old 50l kettles?
I assume its a converted 50l keg (keggle?)
Thanks Barry, I think your right about the pots and at that price its well worth it. Yes I will probably sell the old keg/kettles once the new ones are made and tested
A 100 litre pot and 150 litre pot would be ideal I reckon, although 2x 100 is still better than what I have.
Hey, the new setup tried and tested yet?? IF its a goer I would be keen on your old keggles.
Not until about Feb mate, to much going on over xmas to make a new one and get it running.
Looks like the new system will run better with 3 kettles and include all of my current system. Perfect for back to back brewing for 30 litre and 65 litre batches so I don't think I will end up replacing everything, I'll just run with multiple kettles and swap them out depending on size of the brew.
Sorry about that Alan.
