Electric hot plate for HLT and MLT

Hi guys

 

Have any of you used/ considered using an electric hot plate with a thermostat for converting a stainless steel kettle to HLT and/or MLT. My idea was to sit the kettle on the hot plate then you wouldn't have to muck around welding a hot water element into the pot.

 

Not sure whether a 1600 watt breville one would do the job?
