I managed to score an old Burpee canning pressure cooker which runs fine but the lid keeps sticking with the rubber seal when it cools down.  Anyone know if there is a way to stop this?  Using oil on the rubber or something?

I just ran it again with oil on the rubber, it stuck again but not as bad and opened with a little nudge in the joint.  I am supposed to leave it to cool for an hour before letting any pressure out as the slants will boil over.  I'm pretty sure the rubber will be bonded to the aluminium again by then...   We'll see.

If it is real rubber, oil will make it perish, and if its old it could well be natural rubber.I don't know if a "rubber safe" lubricant would be safe for the yeast or survive the temperature. You'll possibly find a new seal on trademe.

Yeah I have found a new seal and release valve but wanted to get this done today as I have the time, nice test runs yesterday but ended up moving 40 punga logs for Mrs C instead.  I don't want to do the same today will all the manure and rocks haha

Hopefully the rubber holds for the next two weeks while I run some out, 30 litres of starter should last me a good while.

First slants made at long last and first batch of wort being canned as I type - 15 litres not 30.  Stoked at how easy it is in the end.  Hopefully the rest of it is as smooth sailing.  Better once I get a new seal.

Might save up and get a new canning pressure cooker... Might be good for potted meats and canning tuna/kingfish...  I need more spending money...
