Brewery advice

A few weeks ago I scored a stainless steel insulated hot water urn for not much moolah, the guy tested it and will keep temp for ages so I though mash tun, problem being its only 15 litres in volume, was thinking about gradually getting the bits together to go to a 3v system with a brewtroller and was thinking about using this for the mash tun,

I suppose the question is what would be the biggest volume brew I could make in this as I don't want to proceed to far down the track if I can only brew smaller volumes, at the moment I am doing 30 to 40 litres batches which is a good size so would ideally like to continue with the volumes I am doing,

Any thoughts on this?

I always thought of it as how ever big you MLT is is the volume of a roughly 1.060 beer you will get out.

imperial is a pain but thanks to google it is understandable, thinking it ain't going to be anywhere near big enough for what I want to achieve, oh well I ight see a mate with a welder and see if we can't stretch it a touch

Kind of an awkward volume - Dont know what sort of complexity you are heading for with your 3v but pop a heat exchange coil in there as low as you can with just enough water to cover the coil , electric element , PID to control and it has HERMS heat exchanger written all over it....

yeah it was cheap so I had a bid, it didn't state the size so I was just hoping it would be big enough as it's a great wee urn, wee being the word,

 

I can definately see your thought process there, and a great thought it is too, best I rethink the new rig, 27 bucks was the cost of it so I'm not out much if I stuff it, and it does have a kind of funky retro feel to it
