So im thinking of just using what i have on hand to make a kind of lowish ABV Saison (Partial Extract) with the following ingredients:

Black Rock Light Malt Extract 1.5kg

Caramalt 0.5kg

Munich Malt 0.75kg

Belle Saison Yeast

Dextrose (?)

along with some combination of:

Nelson Sauvin Hops

Styrian Goldings Hops

also open to other additions.

So the questions are:

How are we looking in terms of fermentables?

What should i do with the hops?

Any other advice for this?

I've made this to okish success as feeder to a higher ABV saison.: http://wiki.homebrewersassociation.org/SaisonLite139

You could replace the pils grain with the LME but leave out the caramalt -- not sure if a saison is meant to sweet.. Add in dextrose to dry it out.

Use the hopping guide matching the iBUs with the replacement hops but Note well the receipe above has a typo for the AA% of the hops...  Vanguard has a usuall AA% of 5% so the recipe above I assumed they were 6% rather than the 16%  listed...must have been a typo...

I think either hops would be fine.-- Styrian is traditional but I would use the Sauvin hops...  (I'm a big fan of Number 8's Sauvin Saison...)

Thanks for the replies guys, this has been pretty helpful. I went out and tried the 8wired Saison and wasnt blown away by it, so im thinking i might have a bit of a turnaround and turn this into an IPA with a few more hops, but still go with the belle saison yeast. Hopefully comes out with something drinkable.

mainly with the hop profile, any sense in dryhopping as well, or would that just be overkill?
