Recently I've purchased a 40L Crown boiler which works fine except for one annoying problem. When the wort level reaches a certain point the element switches on and off, regardless of the thermostat setting (i.e. the thermostat is not turning the element off). It means a boil takes about 3 hours and is not consistent. Has anyone had this problem and/or have any suggestions?

Gidday mate - try scrubbing the element really clean each time. What happens when there is a build up on it, the current draw exceeds 2kW and shuts off from "overheating"... I had this issue with my Roggenbier - the wort was so Gluggy, the same thing happened.

The other thing you can do is remove the thermostat and replace it withy a simple switch - I haven't gone there yet - because I only had this problem once... since then, my element shines after each batch!
awesome, thanks dude
it was clogged up alright... how do you prevent it from happening during the boil and turning the whole thing into an exercise in futility?
I've had the same problems occasionally with the element in the Bruheat boiler. As joking says cleaning it between brews stopped it occurring. Give the wort a good stir so that all of the first "heavy" runnings are not all at the bottom around the element.
