It'll be very nice, Ally. One thing though... "Going to pitch my recycled S05 yeast, some of which did me a treat on my american barleywine."

That yeast will be pretty tired at this point - so you might want to splash out and get a fresh packet of US-05. You can repitch that barleywine yeast - but a barleywine is pretty high in Hop Resin and Alcohol, meaning the viability of the current generation of cells will be "compromised".

Don't get me wrong - the yeast will still make beer... but the odds are that if you pitch fresh yeast - you'll make better beer.

Just my 2c.
yeah, agree enitirely - don't think i was clear about the recycled yeast so here's a bit of background. I had some S05 doing my American Brown, which turned into an American Mild cos the mash was a learning experience and only came out at 1.038 or so. So i recycled some of the yeast from that, some of which went in the barleywine I've just brewed and some which will be going in the porter.

So, long story about the yeast, but the recycled yeast going in the Porter is fresh from the American brown and should be in top condition, judging by how well its yeasty brothers and sisters did in the barleywine.

Good advice tho about yeast viabiltity - cheers

90 min boil Clarity was perfect!!! it worked to perfection, I could see the bottom of my kettle well trub from the top 23l and 90min boils for me now on!!
This what you dont do when you go on holiday...... Get someone to dryhop your beer!!! I sent an email to the culprit 2 days before I left stating that he need not worry about dry hoping the beer as I had allready done it!!! instead he turns up grabs the 50g of N Sauvin in the freezer and chucks it in!! Of all the hops in there he had to choose this type? its totaly fucked the whole lot!! I cant taste anything else!!! oh well lesson learnt!!! Oh well may just have to use it for case swap!!!! :) LOL
What's the beer? it'll mellow.....
The one above!! I dryhoped it with 40g amarillo and Cascade and 50g Galaxy, now its a shed load of what I think could be the worst hop to dry hop with in NS (unless it a 100% through out the whole beer)

Gravity and efficiency way up, getting a handle on new brewing equipment.

Used a "rolling maul" approach to hopping, interesting to see how this tastes.
Hmm? What do you think you will get out of this? I would love to know? I wounder if it would be a soft bitterness? Who knows good stuff I love stuff like this let us know what it comes out like!!
Continous hopping, choice!
Pure experimentation, not really sure what to expect, maybe a bit more hop complexity (whatever the hell that means!) Was more labour intensive but thankfully the rat inspector episode of fawlty towers was on during the boil.
Dogfish head on the East Coast of USA incorperate this into their 60min, 90min and 120min IPAs. It works to gaive a more rounded hop flavour and aroma.
