Strong beers often represent the height of the brewer’s art skilfully balancing high levels of alcohol, malt, hop and yeast flavours producing something deeply complex and satisfying. While Strong beers have a long history it’s through the craft beer renaissance of the last 30 years that strong beers have come back into the spotlight. The ‘big is better’ mentality of the American craft brewing scene has led American brewers to rediscover beer styles that had all but disappeared from Europe such as Imperial Stout and Barley Wine and to create new styles such as Double India Pale Ale, Wheat Wine and Imperial Porter.
