For those brewers who are not on Facebook, or have their head in a fermentor, there is a new Brew Challenge / Swap going on in Wellington.
The challenge is all about hops, all brewers participating will be brewing a smash beer with 300g/ltr Gladfield Pale Ale, M44 yeast, and 10g/ltr of a randomly picked hop. Brewers can do whatever they like with the hop schedule, to make there beer stand out within the style of an American Pale Ale.
At the end of the challenge…

My wife made some Stout Soap last night, and I added heaps of fuggle hops into it. I used it this morning, and it great. Nothing like the sweet smell of hops in the shower. The club members at Great Expectations tonight will be the test subjects to gain some market feedback.
The selling tag line could be.

Hi Paul,
Still interested in a PID controller if you get any in,
Cheers
Sam
Hi Paul,
Yea I'm interested, can't go to wrong at $30, can always find another use for it if I have to move to 230V later. Was ideally thinking of having a 230v PID in-line in a enclosure (where it can be unplugged from HLT and wall).
Thinking maybe with a 12v PID, lead could go straight from wall socket to the SSR in the metal junction box on the HLT, and the the PID would be a in a separate enclosure (separate from 230v supply). Do you know if the junction boxes Chris uses on HLT might be big enough to fit the relay as well (I would have to insulate relay somehow depending on space)
Cheers
You can get small LED transformers that take 240v down to 12v eBay just need to get 1 with the right amps for the PID, not sure of the top of my head what the PID wattage is, but will check it tonight. As for the enclosure checkout JayCar, the PID is 48 x 48 x 90(deep) but wait until you have all the parts before getting a case. The SSR needs a heat sink too, they don't get incredibly hot, I tested a 25A SSR running for 90min and the heatsink got to max 34degs, without the heatsink I didn't test. I have a heat sink that I can give you anyway.
Hi Paul, that HEX is looking awesome! I've got the settings for the case swap on approve all new members and anyone can join but it still appears to not be letting people join automatically.
