About Me:
Started brewing in 1992 in Little Rock, Arkansas when I helped a mate start Little Rock's first Brew Pub, Vino's (by "helped" I mean cleaning the kegs, boiler, fermentation units, toilet, etc). Moved to NZ permanently in '97 and stopped brewing in 2000. Decided to start up again earlier this year.

I love your beer table !

    Hi Nolen,

I noticed you just brewed a mild. I have also just completed one, using Wyeast West Yorkshire yeast. I brew predominantly APA's and hopier beers, but this is my first mild and malt based beer. I would be keen to do a swap if you are interested to compare?
  • Tony

I have just started fermenting mine. It ended at 1.065! so I am not sure if it is actually a mild, more a strong brown? At the moment I have a stuck fermentation, so I hope the yeast is ok (it's a Tim Taylor). Hey just a bottle or 2 would be fine, I was just interested in this style, because it is not made that much these days.
  • Tony

Yes my temp was too high also, thats probably why? I could get below 25 and I was impatient to wait all night. If I don't get any action in the next 24 hours, I'll have to reboil it and pitch another yeast. At my current calculations, it should end up at around 6.5%

Love your pics mate, nice font ;o)
  • Reviled

Sounds like it will be awesome, looking forward to seeing some pics :o)

I did hear back from Steve. $70 each plus shipping which I think is $20.
I've asked him for a quote on 3 kegs but haven't heard back from him on that yet. I haven't decided to purchase yet. I'm still gathering all the info at the mo. How many kegs are you after?
  • MrC

Hi mate, I haven't done anything about the kegs yet. If I do, I'll probably just get kegs from GE, it'll be a lot easier than trying to get a response from Hallertau. Good to support the LHBS too I guess.
  • JoKing

How is the homebrew tasting, mate? I may be down in Welly (for real this time) SOONISH...
  • JoKing

It all depends on my managers in Chch, and wether or not I can score a stopover in your part of town. Should be soonish! Are you keen to brew an Irish red for the WBC in 3 months? I'll take care of your goods for you...
  • JoKing

2 meke bro! That is all good!
  • Tony

    Nolen, hows tour mild going?
  • Tony

    Sorry, I meant your Mild?
  • Tony

Thanks Mate. Mine turned out really well too. But unfortunately it developed an infection. I'll try one tonight (first one) and if it is ok I'll send you one also.

I meant to say I did bottle it, but have been afraid to try it, for fear of disappointment. It was tasting really well from the hydrometer tube, during testings.
  • Tony

Nolen. I tried the Brown ale last night. It has some 'off tones' and the head retention is pathetic, but it is still drinkable., I won't say too much, but let you judge it for yourself. Send me your address and I'll send you a bottle?

Oh btw, it packs a punch
  • Tony

Hi mate, just got your package. Overnight courier! Wow, I appreciate your diligence and expedience. I'll give it a try and let you know what I think. I am on night shift the next couple of nights.
  • Tony

Just tasting your mild, now. Very quaffable mate. Nice malty palate, a light head but it laces quite well. Very subtle nose (or is my sense of smell buggered), I get a little diacetal, but nothing offensive. All in all, a nice little mild. I like.
  • Mike Neilson

Seems I have your hops with me, text 021680802 to come grab them bud.
  • Mike Neilson

No worries man Glad you enjoyed it also with the other beers could you please give me your honest feedback!! Good or Bad!! Also you should of washed it down with a Imp Stout and Barleywine!
  • Mike Neilson

Brilliant i'dd love that!! Go for it!! Just had the Dubbel to tonight and it tasted like Golden Syrup to me. I also have had the Imp Pils, It has alot peppery spice to it, I put it down to the NZ hops. Umm what else should I warn you about? Robust Porter but I think I allready done that!!
  • Mike Neilson

Glad you thought it was good. How many you got left?
  • Mike Neilson

    Oh yeah I Love Milds!!
  • Mike Neilson

Yeah Basicly its My Smoked Porter but doubled, mashed lower and 100% IBU to SG Ratio, Im brewing another this weekend but dropping the IBU to SG to around 90% to make it not so so harsh. The Barleywine's allright defintly leave it till last.
  • Mike Neilson

Oh Yeah the other one you must of tried was just a Robust Porter I bittered it to 70% I usualy like them around 55-60% But had been drinking so much IPA I thought might of lost the IBUS in my now retarded palatte. My smoked porter turned out allright very suttle but quite complex and is drinking well now, its 8 months old now but I only have 2 bottle left. So will have to brew it again.
  • Mike Neilson

Just seen your message, I'll PM you the Address as the one that I used changed from the posted one on What Are You Brewing

Hi, Just got around to answering your question about the chiller. Planing on uploading the rest of the pictures tonight.
