Definitely a good place to start chris. the website suggests this:
Pale ale, Caramalt, Warrior, Simcoe, Amarillo
Ratebeer.com suggests the beer is actually 56IBU.
this is a seriously good base for a recipe, you can tweak this and every brew will still be awesome
I am going to brew this in the weekend. I am cranking the grain bill to get 6% and replacing the Nugget with Warrior.
Yeah, Good Plan. I'm aiming for this one soon as well.
Brewed this on Sunday and changed Nugget to Warrior and upped the grainbill. Strangely enough it finished at 1040 and I have no idea why. Mash temp may have been a bit low. 11.3 kg of golden promise and .3 of Caramalt for 46 litre batch and brewing system was a Farra. Water volumes a bit screwed at 38 litres, doenst explain the low gravity but. Oh well a session Monster then.
Hey Chris, I am having a second crack at this as my first attempt ended up with an infection. Anything you would change in hindsight? I am wondering about reducing the 60 min addition or adding it later........
Hi Guys,
looking to have a crack at this for my first BIAB brew this weekend. Can someone help me with the mash temp/time for BIAB. Does 60 min @ 68deg sound okay? Should I mash out?
I am aiming to get 13L into the fermenter. Have the following recipe scaled from the original above:
Litres into the fermenter... | 13 |
Pale Ale (g): | 3120 |
Caramalt (g): | 130 |
Warrior: (g) 60mins | 20 |
Simcoe (g) 10min | 16 |
Amarillo (g) 10min | 16 |
Amarillo (g) 0min | 16 |
Simcoe (g) 0min | 16 |
Amarillo (g) Dry Hop | 33 |
Simcoe (g) Dry Hop. | 33 |
Any thoughts or ideas for this?
Cheers
I mashed mine @ 66 which I thought was about right. The real Yakima Monster doesn't have a lot of body to it I didn't think.....
Thanks Mark,
I will be happy if my attempt comes even close to the original!
