Hi all.
I'm wanting to try fermenting under pressure in my cornys but I'm having trouble sourcing parts for a spunding valve build here in NZ. Most of the forums elsewhere seem to recommend McMaster-Carr in the US for parts, however they won't ship internationally (even with NZ post's YouShop service).
I'm wondering if anyone has a good source for parts with NPT threads here in NZ or elsewhere that will ship here. The setup I was hoping to build included the following parts:
- SS 1/4" NPT pipe cross pipe fitting (rated to at least 150 psi)
- SS pressure gauge 0-30 or 60 PSI, 14" NPT bottom fitting
- SS 1/4" NPT to tube barb fitting
- Variable, pressure release valve for air, 0-30 or 60 psi
- (I've already got the 1/4" NPT to corny keg post adaptor + ball-lock gas in post on order)
If anyone has any sugestions I'd be very grateful.
Cheers.

What do you mean YouShop doesn't work, McMaster won't ship to Portland? As far as McMaster is concerned they're shipping normally to the Continental US.
Price of shipping from Portland to NZ through YouShop, now that's another thing entirely :)
I put an order with McMaster-Carr yesterday with my NZ visa and my YouShop address. Everything seemed to go fine until this morning when I received the following email:
"Due to the complexity of U.S. export regulations, McMaster-Carr accepts international orders only from our established customers. This decision also applies to orders shipping within the United States, because it is based on the final destination of the items. We cannot accept this order or future orders."
I don't know how they figured I wasn't in the US. Perhaps they're onto the YouShop system, or maybe they detected my visa was not an American one. Nonetheless, it would appear that they have flagged my account to prevent any future orders. I'll probably try again though in a little while.
Has anyone here had success with ordering from McMaster Carr? The YouShop fee is only about $12.00 which ill gladly pay if I can get what I want. But hey, if you have an local alternative source for these parts I'd love to hear about it.
Wow!
I'd say they got onto it from your credit card billing address, do you have access to an American CC?
Air New Zealand Airpoints Amex cards can be used as a US credit card FWIW.
I'm absolutely amazed at that.
There's a ton of options if I google for "SS 1/4" NPT pipe cross pipe fitting (rated to at least 150 psi)", some are getting pretty spendy though. Some of them might potentially ship to Portland without any hassle. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
No worries! Thanks for your help. I've been meaning to look into the Air NZ credit cards, so this could be the added motivation I needed!
The nice thing about McMaster Carr was that it was a one-stop shop for all the bits needed making the YouShop charges acceptable. Buying piecemeal from vendors off of amazon or ebay just adds to the expense as it seems you are charged separately for every order on YouShop (please anyone correct me if I'm wrong!).
Based on your profile and previous posts, it would seem you have a reasonably sophisticated setup Barry. Where do you get your parts from?
Just in case any of you are having the same issues, I thought I would share the solution I've found. I got a lead on some parts here in Auckland from a place called WAM (http://www.hoseshop.co.nz/newsite/). Although it would not seem that they have much from the look of their website, they had everything I needed (mind you only in brass - oh well). It also came out to be quite a bit cheaper then ordering online with shipping etc.
Here's my spunding valve. I plan to add a corny ball lock gas-in port on the left port which is current plugged off. Just waiting for it to arrive in the mail.
Special thanks to Barry for his help.
Hey Beau,
Glad I helped at least a bit :)
Apologies for the random friend request, I'm not in the habit of friending total strangers but it's the only way to send a DM.
Hey how did you get on with pressure fermenting in your cornys? did it work? what is your process?
Cheers
Bryan
Too late but keg resources have what you were after (also in brass)...variable PRV
