Kit Enhancing & Partial Mash Recipes

Looking for things to do/add to enhance the Coopers Dark Ale can. I'm a real new brewer and I want to make a dark ale that taste better then just the kit (add extra malts, hops, fermentables) but I don't know what goes with what. would love any ideas and any knowledge you feel like passing on.

Also want to do some partial mashes so any good recipes you'd like to recommend will be much appreciated.
