Thinking about brewing a red IPA and figured this would be a good one to use, does anyone have any thoughts/experiences with it?

Ive used this a couple of time for red IPAs, works well in combination with aurora malt to get a good red colour
I used it for a Red IPA recently:

If I brewed again I might drop the crystal or up the IBU (I went for 60) as it was a bit malt forward for my liking
Cheers, I don't really want it as malty as an amber ale, just walking that fine line somewhere between straight west-coast IPA and American Amber.
Samuel what sort of % of the Aurora and Redback did you use for the red IPA? I've read that it's pretty easy to over do it with melanoidin (depending on style, of course) so I'm guessing it would be the same with the Aurora? I was planning on keeping the grain bill fairly simple (again, more IPA than complex malty amber ale) I just wanted a touch more colour and malt backbone than usual.
I ran a West coast Red IPa recently with 6% Shep D and 4% Caramunich, beautifully red, and hopped it up to the max. rest was just pale malt.
Chinook, Centennial & Zythos, to find something similar to Vindicator by Panhead.
Came out really well. Masses of hops though. My Flameout and dryhop were 130g each alone
plus a bitter and 2 flavour additions.
if you want it red, shepherds delight is the bomb. redback/aurora etc are similar malts with melanoidin qualities. use darke malts to make them blood red.
Not sure I've tried vindicator, but your version sounds a lot like what I want to make (although I'm aiming more for 7%, to help make the festive season a bit more festive).
Sounds like I should give the shepherds delight a nudge then, 5% each of that plus redback enough? I've got 250g Amarillo, 120g Simcoe, 60g Citra and I'm thinking about trying some Mosaic too, so I should be on the right track there. Some people have had problems with their Grainfather filters clogging, but I've used over 200g in the boil a couple of times now and still managed to get it done ok...
Not sure how people are having issues with clogging tbh.

My Recipe is:
6% Shepherd Delight
4% Caramunich II
1.2% Acid Malt for ph
Remainder Pale Malt to 1.072
40g pacific jade @ 60
30g chinook @ 20
70g Centennial @0
30g Centennial @0
30g Zythos @0
M44 Mangrove Jacks Yeast
Dryhop Same amount as Flameout againv (130g total)
mash low and expect to finish around 1.014ish (it was BIAB atthe time)
switch up the hops as you se efit. simcoe is a good sub for chinook, with amarillo for zythosand centennial nd citra swapped. makes sense to me.
im playing around with a red rye IPA recipe at the moment that i want to smash out next weekend, i think im confusing myself and making it over complicated. Can anyone see any problems with my grainbill? this is the first recipe i am building myself.
68% Gladfield american ale malt
5% Gladfield Munich malt
11% Rye Malt
8.5% Gladfield red back malt
5% Gladfield shepards delight
2% Gladfield sour grapes
OG of 1.067

Big hops with the Red Rye... like Neslon Sauvin and Centenial.
The grain bill looks good.
Looks good to me too, though some may say it's more of am American Amber looking grainbill with all that crystal. Clean fermentation and a big dose of fruity hops at whirlpool and dry hop, don't go overboard on the IBUs and you'll have a bloody nice beer!
I used the redback in a few recipes and I think I likes this one the best, a little darker and maltier than the average IPA, but not as thick and chewy as an Amber. I only used Pilsner because that's what I had on hand, otherwise I'd have kept the Munich at 5%.
