Christchurch Quake Take Two.

Hi All

 

Thanks to all those who have texted and called, it is nice to know you think of us here!

 

Christchurch is a mess, our house along with several hundred in my area have cracks, no power or water etc. We are lucky though as our thoughts are with the hundreds of families with missing loved ones.

 

Staying with my brother at the moment as he has power and internet!

Safe and well, and really gratified at the kindness coming in form the rest of the country. I'm also taking refuge out of town at my brother-in-law's place. The house was damaged in September and isn't much worse, but there's no water in my street, and my dog hates the aftershocks.

I lost very little beer, but was gutted to find that the airlock had been knocked out of a finished batch of Dark Mild I made after finally trying (and loving) Kid Chocolate. It was sitting in a very dusty garage having all kinds of crap rained down on from the bricks and ceiling.

What do you think? It's against my better judgement, but should I just bottle it in plastic anyway and hope that it's okay? I was really looking forward to this beer :(

Yeah bottle it, it's worth trying to save the brew.

Bottle it - it'll be fine. I've found all sorts of shit in the bottom of my fermenters thanks to my 18 month old girl who loves taking the top of my carboys and putting things like pegs, nail clippers, tooth brushes, cotton tips etc in them. They've all turned out fine.

You could get it into jerry can and serve it through a handpump.  I'm sure the student volunteer army would knock it off in 5min (or my father-in-law is down there shovelling for the Federated Farmers group).

Glad to hear all you boys are OK. Chin up for the big recovery, take care of yourselves and your families and neighbours. Let us know if there's anything we can do from up north.
