Did anyone see the the article in "your weekend" about the end of the world club? It featured Michael O'Brien... the man after whom Bookbinder was named (I believe, perhaps Richard or Chris can confirm)... http://storage.spudatron.com/YourWeekend-CoverStorySmall.pdf
There was also an excellent article, with a mix of enthusiasm and realism, on Hamilton's new craft beer bar and the NZ craft beer scene in general... http://storage.spudatron.com/House-Bruce.jpg
Stu, how the hell did you come across that first article..? Interesting read. I have oftened dreamed of the end- of-world where lawyers, politicians and accountants skills are nolonger of any value. I cherish the though of such non-value adding functions being eliminated and replaced by Brewers, Mechanics and Farmers, however have I come to the logical conclusion the clever little power/money grabbing pricks to quickly evolve and continue to dominate in some way, shape or form...
PS: If anyone is offended by these generalised comments, then your obviously in the wrong profession. Your honesty and integrity standards are far to high for what your doing... and furthermore if you can't laugh... well...?
I agree but I'll have to drop my day job, to a certain degree, in that world!
Was in the same weekend supplement that the beer article was in... With Fairfax weekend paper. Sunday Star Times? Those sorts of articles interest me as my bro was writing articles and giving speeches about peak oil long before it came into the mainstream media. He's a contradiction - commutes 50+km a day on his Triumph Thruxton, lives in a McMansion in the suburbs... but he does have a solar panel!! He's since given up the hobby to concentrate on his PhD (in an unrelated field).
I thought Bookie was named after an Oamaru festival that they first brewed the beer for that was in or around a building that used to be a Book Binders - ie repaired old books...? Maybe one of the same but I don;t recognise the chap...
