Hey folks,
Was hoping to get some advice as to where I can buy, or how I can make a nice big boiling pot. About 20-30L... Or something close, in case they don't come that big.
I live in Dunedin and I'm straight outa' Lo-cash.
Cheers
Warehouse maybe? I appreciate the no cash comment but the dirty ole red shed offers some cheap stuff that doesn't always break straight off (Disclaimer for any lawyers - i am not suggesting the Warehouse goods are low quality and don't last)
I got myself a 17L vessel for <$20 sometime ago. Not quite in your range but worth thinking about maybe?
I'm in Chch and Southern Hospitality do all sorts of big pots, in SS and aluminium for a range of prices. Maybe they deliver/have an office in Dunners.
Homemade - not my thing. I know SFA about home made stuff, but someone here will give you a steer I'm sure. Good luck finding yr big pot
Hey Denimglen/HerrSchnapps, have you guys checked how much those pots actually hold? I got the same one after reading this post sometime ago, I noticed on my first BIAB brew I did that the pot was full to the brim with 30L of water and 5KG of grain. Second BIAB today and the same thing happened. I measured it up and I reckon the pot is only 36/37L!! Probably explains why it's getting so full. Same for you's?
Yeah mate, I put a sight glass on mine - didn't go right to 40L but reckon it wouldn't be more than 38L. But then again, I measured it and PIxR^2*H and got like 39.9897456708763403864 L or something.
I measured with a ruler how much each litre took up and it was pretty much 1cm per L up at 5L full. If I use that to the top then I reckon it's like 36-37cm high. I might have to chuck in water in 5L increments from the jug and see how I go, feel a bit ripped off though if it's not 40L as advertised. Weird how your measurement came out about right though.
Yeah your right it was a good price compared to elsewhere, just a bugger for me with BIAB squeezing it all in for the mash! Maybe an upgrade to 56L is in order!
I bought one of their 60L pots recently, and after measuring it up I reckon it holds somewhere between 55 and 56 litres. I've used it once so far and plan on getting the pot out tomorrow night - but it seemed to do a pretty good job for brew number 1.
