I brewed the Rakau Light Pale this morning. Matthew called by to pick up some yeast and we talked grains, compared potato crops and sniffed some Rakau. I rehydrated the yeast and started adding wort as I ran off to the fermenter - takes 20 - 30 minutes. Here's the yeast just before pitching, quite pleased with that

Rakau Welsh Ale
A plague of shallots (as mine are going to seed) on you Mr Cherry ! The Welsh unleashed leeks (the devils work) on the world and deserve to fester for eternity in a beerless Hell
It'll have a fancy name in honour of Aunty Betty in Dunners, who we just found out isn't well and won't last long.
I must admit that the Rakau is harsher than I anticipated and I wish I'd upped the pale Crystal a tad or two. Maybe lucky I hit 1.042 even after back liquoring, might compensate a bit
Although a plague of shallots would be amusing I'm going to say I got Raquel Welsh Ale from Mr C's accent.... :) It's interesting that you say rakau has a harshness to it, as I think when used in later additions it provides a little onion. Nothing that I would tip out, but it is there.
