Just wondering I have my hops starting to sprout wildly now they have woken up, I have a smooth cone and three other varieties, just wondering what style of beer the smooth cone is good for, what are the characteristics people have noticed with this one,

Also compared to pellet hops would you just use the same amount by weight of a cone hop or is there some magic equation or is it hop tea to kind of roughly work it out,

Cheers

I can't help you with the Smoothcone.

As for pellet vs cone utilization, about use and extra 15% if using cones instead of pellets.
Or are you harvesting your own and using fresh, not sure how you account for that

Oh, edit, allow for more wort absorption using cones too

I can't help you with the Smoothcone either.

I agree with jt about cones absorbing more wort then pellets, they're like little sponges.

When I've brewed with home grown cones I always using a know AA hop for bitterring and then use my home grown hops for the later additions and increase the weight by 15-20%  from what I would usually use for pellets.
